FP – Fall Prevention When Working at Heights – 1 day

This  program is for people who work at heights in fall prevention environments as per the requirements of Construction Regulations 2014 of the Occupational Health and Safety Act (Act 85 of 1993).

Fire Fighting

At the end of this training the candidate will be able to

  1. List the PPE required for Working at Height
  2. Explain the differences between fall prevention and fall arrest
  3. List the safety requirements while working on scaffolding
  4. Explain the safety requirements when using ladders and stepladders
  5. Explain the purpose of guardrails, intermediate rails and kick boards
  6. List the safety rules when working in an area protected by guardrails
  7. Explain the purpose of a fall restraint system
  8. Demonstrate a pre-use inspection of a full body harness and lanyard
  9. Demonstrate fit and adjust (donning) of a full body harness
  10. Identify and explain correct use of various connection methods
  11. Demonstrate the use of horizontal lifelines for fall prevention
  12. Explain how workers can be protected from falling objects
Work at heights - fall arrest

FA – Fall Arrest – 1 day

This program is aimed at the person who works at heights, in a fall arrest environment. The person credited with this unit standard is able to follow fall arrest principles to perform work in a fall risk position safely, under supervision of a qualified supervisor.

At the end of this training the candidate will be able to

  1. Explain the use of a limited range of fall arrest equipment
  2. Explain the limitations of a limited range of fall arrest equipment
  3. Inspect a limited range of fall arrest equipment
  4. Assemble a limited range of fall arrest equipment
  5. Store a limited range of fall arrest equipment
  6. Use fall arrest systems with a double lanyard
  7. Use pre-installed vertical and horizontal lifelines

FAR – Fall Arrest Rescue – 2 days

Install, use and perform basic rescues from fall arrest systems and implement the fall protection plan

The person credited with this unit standard will take responsibility for inspection and installation of fall arrest systems and for implementing fall protection plans and rescues.

Work at Heights rescue

At the end of this training the candidate will be able to

  1. Explain and use a range of fall arrest equipment
  2. Explain and use basic rope knots
  3. Install and use fall arrest systems
  4. Inspect and assemble fall arrest equipment and systems
  5. Interpret and implement a fall protection plan
  6. Perform basic fall arrest rescues to bring a casualty down to safety
Breathing Apparatus Set

FPP – Fall Protection Planner – 3 days

Assess a work site for work at height and prepare a fall protection plan

The person credited with this unit standard will be responsible for the safety and protection of people working in a fall risk position where there is a risk of injury from a fall.

On completion of this program learners will be able to

  • Perform a risk assessment of a worksite where work is to be done in a fall risk position
  • Demonstrate knowledge of fall arrest equipment and advanced fall arrest rescue
  • Explain effects of suspension trauma
  • Develop fall protection and rescue plans for people working in a fall risk position
  • Manage safety of personnel working in a fall risk position
