Annual Servicing

SANS 10400-T:2020 makes specific reference to the installation and maintenance of fire extinguishers and fire hose reels.

Portable fire extinguishers must be installed to comply with the requirements in SANS 1910, and shall be installed, maintained and serviced by competent persons in accordance with SANS 1475-1 and with SANS 10105-1

Fall prevention

The service intervals are annually and pressure testing shall be done:

A. Every 5 years for Water, Foam and Dry Powder units
B. Every 10 years for CO2 units
Hose Reels must be installed in any building larger than 250m² at a ratio of 1 per 500m². The hose shall comply with the requirements of SANS 543 and serviced in accordance with SANS 1475-2. Any hose reel so installed shall be positioned to ensure that the end of the hose will reach any point in the area to be protected. (Reference SANS 10400-T:2020)

NOTE:

  • This requirement applies to the physical reach by the hose and nozzle end, not the extent of the arc of water discharging from the hose end under pressure. The physical reach of the hose being measured in the same manner as required for travel distances, not a hypothetical arc inscribed over a layout plan of the building. Cognisance should be taken of that the allowable length of a hose should not be less than 28 m before being replaced (Refer to SANS 1475-2). (Reference SANS 10400-T:2020)

Our electronic system uses QR codes on each fire unit.

Electronic tracking of fire extinguishers provides a simple cost-effective method to inspect units and report faults. The system generates accurate service reports which is an essential part compliance and aids in accurate budgeting for upcoming annual maintenance.

The system compiles a service log of key information about the equipment size, location, contents, age, and service history. The system also solves many problems associated with a paper-based approach, including:

    1. Ensuring nothing gets missed
    2. Plan hydrostatic tests, so you can better forecast the cost of your next service
    3. Proof of compliance
    4. It also provides a platform for monthly inspections and push notification of faults
