Types of fire extinguishers

The type and size of fire extinguisher required for any building is based on the requirements of SANS 10400 part T as well as the fire risk assessment to ensure the effectiveness of the extinguisher while reducing damage which may be caused by the extinguishing agent. Please note: A local authority may specify the type of portable fire extinguishers to be provided and may require that a number of fire extinguishers be installed in excess of the number indicated in table 11 (See SANS 10400-T: 2020)

Dry Chemical Powder (DCP)

CP fire extinguishers are available in the following sizes:

  • 9 KG
  • 4.5 KG
  • 2.5 KG
  •  1.5 KG
  •  1 KG
  •  0.6 KG


CO2 fire extinguishers are available in the following sizes:

  • 2 KG
  • 5 KG

Water & Foam

Water and Foam fire extinguishers re available in 9 Liters

Hose Reels

Fire hose reels are required for any building with two or more storeys and any single story building with a floor area which exceeds 250 m2. At a rate of 1 hose reel for every 500m2. The hose reel must be installed so that the nozzle of the hose can reach the furthest point in any room in the area.
